The chairman of the House Permanent Committee on Intelligence told reporters that he has yet to see evidence of contacts between President Donald Trump’s campaign and individuals in the Russian government
“As of right now, we have no evidence, but we will continue to ask for evidence and look for evidence,” said Rep. Devin Nunes (R.-Calif.), who called the press conference to deal with a number of issues, including a New York Times report that the members of the Trump campaign were in contact with Russian intelligence and that he was pressured by the White House to call reporters to knock down the Times story. ” A few minutes later Nunes was asked again by CNN’s Jim Sciutto to clarify that he has been told there’s no evidence of any contacts. “The way it sounds like to me is it’s been looked into and there is no evidence of anything there. Obviously we’d like to know if there is,” Nunes said. Nunes also said that he had been briefed on a transcript of a phone call that former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn had with a Russian envoy after the election. He said he did not hear anything worrisome about that call.
